Accommodation

There are several possible accommodation facilities. In case you are staying in none of the listed ones and have any doubt as to how to get to the institute or move through Madrid, please contact any of the semester's organizers, be it face-to-face or via the e-mail qagaqi@icmat.es.

Residencia de Estudiantes CSIC

This hotel is located within the CSIC headquarters (Spanish Research Council). There are two entrances (C/ Pinar 21 and C/ Serrano 113-117, which is the main entrance to the CSIC). Should you arrive after 22:00 you would have to call to the inter phone. The map above details the closest metro stations to the hotel.

There are several ways to go to the hotel from the airport (and vice-versa):

  • By taxi: the price for a taxi ride from the airport to the center is a flat rate of 30€.
  • By metro: there is a direct metro line (the 8th, pink one) from the airport to the station “Nuevos Ministerios”. From there, it is a 10 minute walk to the hotel. This option should cost around 5€.
  • By train: if you arrive to the Terminal 4 of the airport, you can also go to the Renfe station “Nuevos Ministerios” by the Renfe (local trains). This option costs 5,20€.
Please note that this option is only available if you arrive to the Terminal 4 of the airport.

Residencia Erasmo

This is a residence situated on the campus. The walk from the residence to the institute should be around 10 minutes long. The rooms are very comfortable and there is a kitchen in each room. The main disadvantage is that it is not in the city center (about 20 minutes by local train). Please check below for more information.

There are several ways to go to the hotel from the airport (and vice-versa):

  • By taxi: the price for a taxi ride from the airport to the university is not a flat rate, but should be around 30€.
  • By metro and train: from the airport, pick the 8th metro line (the pink one) up until “Nuevos Ministerios”.
Once there, you will have to catch a train to get to the university. The correct line is the C4. Virtually any (i.e. please check beforehand) train departing from platform 6 in Nuevos Ministerios will do.
The cost of this option should be around 7-8€.
  • By train: if you arrive to the Terminal 4 of the airport, you can also go to the Renfe station “Nuevos Ministerios” by the Renfe (local trains), and from there follow the latter option. This option should cost around 7-8€ as well. Please note that this option is only available if you arrive to the Terminal 4 of the airport.

TRYP Hotel (Chamartín)

This hotel is located right next to the Chamartín Station, C/ Mauricio Ravel 10. This station is closer to the university than "Nuevos Ministerios", so the travel from this hotel to the institute should be around 45 minutes, including the train ride.

In this case, there are only 2 ways to go to the hotel from the airport (and vice-versa):

  • By taxi: the price for a taxi ride from the airport to the center is a flat rate of 30€.
  • By metro: from the airport, pick the 8th metro line (the pink one) up until “Nuevos Ministerios”. From there pick the metro line 10 (the dark blue one), direction Hospital Infanta Sofía. The 4th stop is Chamartín. This option should cost around 6.50€.

Institute vs. City center

The easiest way to go from the campus (in which the insitute is located) to the city center, and coming back is by Renfe (local trains). For timetables, please consult http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/madrid/index.html and choose "Cantoblanco Universidad - Sol". This is the same train line that goes through Nuevos Ministerios and Chamartín (for those living in the vicinity).

Each single train ticket (either going or coming back) costs 1.85€, but you can buy a 10-trip ticket for 14.50€. This is the option we recommend.
