Daniel Kráľ (Masaryk University, Czech Republic) was the speaker in the last ICMAT-UAM-UC3M-UCM joint colloquium, “Analytic approach to extremal combinatorics”, which took place on 23 June at the Department of Mathematics of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The researcher focused on his most recent work, which studies the interaction between Ramsey's theory – a “set of results that establishes the impossibility of complete chaos” – and extreme combinatorics.

We interviewed Kráľ on the occasion of the colloquium, you can read what he told us on this link.

The colloquium is also available on YouTube

In July, the fourth edition of Stematesella came to an end. This is a mentoring programme for female undergraduate and postgraduate students in mathematics and other related disciplines, promoted by the Asociación Española de Ejecutivos y Consejeras (EJE&CON), the Real Sociedad Matemática Española (RSME), the ICMAT, the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) and Ackermann International. The programme puts students in contact with science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals, both from the academic field –researchers and teachers from the RSME and ICMAT, among other institutions– and from the business world –executives and advisors from EJE&CON–, through periodic tutoring meetings.

In this edition, 55 couples have participated, and 45 have completed the course. The programme has also included talks on career opportunities in mathematics and engineering. On 4 July 2023, the closing ceremony of the IV edition of the steMatEsElla programme took place at the ICMAT auditorium.
