Small growth rates of free groups

Resumen:
The growth rate is a basic invariant of a finitely generated group. It depends on a finite generating set. In joint work with Sela, we proved that for each non-elementary hyperbolic group, the set of growth rates for its generating sets is well-ordered. In general, it is difficult to determine this set explicitly. It was known that the smallest growth rate of a free group is attained by a free basis. In joint work with Kim and Tanaka, we determined the second and third smallest growth rates of a free group.
