Novikov rings and cohomological dimension

Resumen:
The homology of a group or a space with coefficients in the Novikov ring has classically been used to study the finiteness properties of kernels of maps to Z, or of infinite cyclic covering spaces. In this talk we will define the Novikov rings, discuss core results relating to them, and see how Novikov cohomology controls the cohomological dimension of kernels of maps to Z.
