Computers and mathematics in fluid mechanics: new developments and challenges

Resumen:

In the last 50 years computing power has experienced an enormous development: every two years the number of transistors has doubled since the 1970’s. In this talk I will address the interaction between traditional and modern mathematics and how computers have helped over the last decade providing rigorous proofs in the context of fluid mechanics. Parts of the talk will be interactive (we will do a computer-assisted proof during the talk). I will also describe new exciting future directions in the field. No background is assumed.
