About:
Juan Carlos studied Mathematics and Computer Science (2018 – 2023) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In his last year, he was introduced to a Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling algorithm that combined Metropolis-Hastings probabilities with Tensor Networks (TNMH). He continued the research ideas from the paper where it was first proposed, guided by Prof. Sofyan Iblisdir, who also contributed to the aforementioned publication. They were trying to apply the good results obtained in spin systems to other models that had variables in a compact space.
The following year, Juan Carlos completed an MSc in Advanced Mathematics at the Universitat de Barcelona, while developing a parallel interest in Quantum Information Theory. During that time, he kept working with Sofyan Iblisdir on his master's thesis, which continued the project started previously.
In September 2024, he started his PhD studies in the MathQI group under the supervision of David Pérez García and Sofyan Iblisdir. The project is still focused on developing the TNMH algorithm for gauge theories, but also on studying its theoretical bounds and obtaining numerical results for different models. To that end, Juan Carlos studies Representation Theory, Probability Theory, numerical methods in Linear Algebra and also works with HPC systems that can cope with the computational demands of the numerics.
