About:
Javier Aramayona is a permanent CSIC researcher (científico titular) working at ICMAT. He currently serves as ICMAT director.
Javier obtained his PhD at the University of Southampton in 2005, under the supervision of Brian Bowditch. He then held postdoctoral positions at Warwick, Marseille, MSRI and Urbana-Champaign. Between 2008 and 2013 he was (permanent) Lecturer in Mathematics at the National University of Ireland, Galway; and between 2013-2015 he was Maître de Conférences at the Université de Toulouse III (Paul Sabatier). In 2015 he returned to Madrid with a Ramón y Cajal fellowship, and in 2020 he joined CSIC.
Javier’s interests lie at the intersection between geometry, topology and group theory. Most of his papers revolve around mapping class groups of topological surfaces and the spaces on which these act.
