Fernando Quirós is Full Professor (Catedrático) at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a Researcher of ICMAT.
After obtaining a degree in Physics, he worked for some time for private companies (Geocisa, IBM) while he studied to get a degree in Mathematics. After quitting Industry, he obtained his Ph.D in Mathematics in 1996 at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He has held teaching and research positions in U. Politécnica de Madrid, Leiden University (The Netherlands) and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
His research is focused on nonlinear diffusion equations and free boundary problems, paying special attention to regularity issues, the description of the large-time behaviour of solutions and the possible formation of singularities in finite time. In recent years he has devoted a lot of time to the analysis of diffusion problems involving non-local operators.
