About:

José María Martell is Profesor de Investigación at the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas – ICMAT (Institute for mathematical Research). His main research areas are harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, and geometric measure theory. In particular, his research has dealt with the Calderón-Zygmund theory, weighted norm inequalities, Poincaré type inequalities, wavelets, operators associated with the Kato conjecture, elliptic PDE with rough coefficient in rough domains, etc.

He has more than 80 published articles and some of them are in prestigious journals such as Inventiones Mathematicae, Duke Mathematical Journal, Geometric and Functional Analysis, Advances in Mathematics, Journal of the European Mathematical Society, Mathematische Annalen, Annales scientifiques de l’École normale supérieure, Analysis & PDE, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, International Mathematics Research Notices, Journal of Differential Equations, and Journal of Functional Analysis. In 2011, he published the book “Weights, extrapolation and the theory of Rubio de Francia” in Birkhäuser coauthored with D. Cruz-Uribe and C. Pérez. According to Mathscinet he has been cited over 1450 times and has more than 40 coauthors.

J.M. Martell was born in Spain. He got his Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2001. He has held academic positions at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Postdoctoral Positions at the University of Missouri-Columbia (USA) and the Université Paris Sud-CNRS (France).

In 2005, J.M. Martell obtained a Ramon y Cajal Fellowship ranked number 1. In 2013 he was awarded with a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (1.429.790 €) to develop his project CoG-HAPDEGMT-615112 “Harmonic Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Geometric Measure Theory” during the period 2014 to 2019.

He has been a Miller’s Scholar at the University of Missouri-Columbia (USA); a Roger Richardson Visiting Fellow at the Mathematical Sciences Institute, Australian National University (Australia); Research Member at the MSRI (USA); and Visitor Professor at University of Missouri-Columbia (USA). He is currently serving as Editor of Advances in Calculus of Variations and Potential Analysis.

J.M. Martell is the Vice-president for Scientific and Technical Research (VICYT) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) since July 2022. He was the Director of the ICMAT from January 2020 to July 2022, and its Interim Director and the Deputy Director. Additionally, he was the Director of the CFTMAT (Centro de Física Teórica y Matemáticas) from February 2020 to July 2022.
