About:

Andrei Jaikin-Zapirain is a professor of Department of Mathematica of the Autonomous University of Madrid and a member of the Institute of Mathematics. In 1995 he finished his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Moscow State University. He achieved his Ph.D. in 2001 at the University of the Basque Country.

The mathematical interests of Andrei Jaikin-Zapirain have developed from the study of group theoretical questions about finite and profinite groups to interactions of group theory with other areas of mathematics like topology or number theory. His work is characterized by the strong use of ring-theoretical methods. His recent results about L2-Betti numbers and mod-p L2-Betti numbers have found unexpected applications in the solutions of the Hanna Neumann conjecture and the Baumslag conjecture.
