Fundamentals of quantum mechanics and gravitation, this week at ICMAT

23 February, 2026

The 11th International Workshop on Information Geometry, Quantum Mechanics and Applications brings together more than 30 early-career researchers with leading experts in the field of quantum mechanics.

From February 23 to 27, 2026, the 11th International Workshop on Information Geometry, Quantum Mechanics and Applications will be held at ICMAT. This is “an international meeting dedicated to the analysis of the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics and its many applications, focusing today mainly on emerging problems related to quantum information theories and issues related to field theory, both classical and quantum,” explains Alberto Ibort (ICMAT-UC3M), one of its organizers.

“The aim is to show young researchers, both predoctoral and postdoctoral, various problems that lie at the foundations of quantum mechanics and that are cross-cutting, both in terms of their mathematical nature and their physical implications,” he explains. Among these, he cites “the unstoppable categorization of the foundations of quantum information theory and field theories, and the geometrization of quantum mechanics.”

The program includes a two-session mini-course taught by Carlo Rovelli, a theoretical physicist and writer, expert in quantum gravity, and one of the founders of loop quantum gravity theory. In addition, there will be 15 talks by specialists in these fields, including Francesca Vidotto (CSIC Institute of Structure of Matter) and Kasia Reizner (University of York, UK), leading specialists in the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and gravitation, which are the central themes of this edition. Giuseppe Marmo (University of Naples, Italy) and Manuel Asorey (University of Zaragoza) will also give lectures.
