11 October, 2024

Today, 11 October, at 13:00, the ICMAT is hosting the closing ceremony of the fifth edition of the steMatEsella mentoring programme, promoted by the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME), the Spanish Association of Executives and Advisors (EJE&CON), ICMAT, Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) and Ackermann International. The sixth edition will also be inaugurated, and the registration period is open until 6 December, both for mentors -researchers and other professionals in STEM fields- and for mentees -students of STEM university degrees-.

This week sees the launch of the sixth edition of the steMatEsElla programme, organised by the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME) and the Spanish Association of Executives and Consultants (EJE&CON), with the collaboration of ICMAT, Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) and Ackermann International. The aim of this initiative is to ‘encourage and support the academic and professional growth of women in the field of mathematics and other STEM disciplines’, through the mentoring of women students, both undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, by established professionals in these areas.

‘Participation in this programme is an added value to the training of our young women, as they receive first-hand insight into the world of work provided by professionals with solid careers,’ says Ana Bravo, deputy director of ICMAT and member of the programme team.

Today, 11 October, at 13:00 in the Assembly Hall of the Centre for Theoretical Physics and Mathematics (CFTMAT) there will be an opening event of this new edition, as well as the closing of the previous one. It will be chaired by Eva Gallardo, president of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME), and Cristina Sancho, president of the Spanish Association of Executives and Consultants (EJE&CON). Irene García Sáez, deputy general manager of Mawdy-Grupo Mapfre, will also give a talk. In addition, several of the participants in previous editions will speak about their experiences in the programme. The event can be followed online through Zoom, for which prior registration is required.

Registration for the new edition will be open until 6 December. Over a period of six months, from February to July 2025, participants will enjoy, free of charge, individualised mentoring, thematic workshops, panel discussions and networking events.
