Javier Parcet is a Professor at the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT-CSIC). After his PhD in Mathematics (Madrid, 2003), he enjoyed three postdoc periods in Texas A&M University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Centre de Recerca Matemática de Barcelona..
Parcet’s research is focused on Noncommutative Harmonic Analysis, with ramifications into Operator Algebras, Geometric Group Theory, Quantum Probability and Operator Space Theory. He has coauthored over 50 research papers, including articles in Annals of Mathematics, Forum of Mathematics Pi, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Duke Math J, GAFA, Journal of the European Mathematical Society, Annales Scientifiques ENS, Crelle’s Journal, American J Math, Memoirs AMS, Annals of Probability, Proceedings LMS, Adv Math, Math Annalen, Analysis and PDE, Communications Math Physics, Forum of Mathematics Sigma, J Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées…
Among other awards and honors, Javier was distinguished with the Best PhD Thesis Award (UAM, 2004), Fulbright Scholarship (2004-2005), Ramón y Cajal Researcher position in 2005, and the José Luis Rubio de Francia Prize 2006 (Spanish Math Society Española) for researchers under 32 years old. In 2010, Parcet was awarded one of the prestigious ERC Starting Grants in 2010 to develop a noncommutative extension of Calderón-Zygmund theory (2010-2015). He has also been Professeur Invité at Caen-Normandie (2017) and ENS Lyon (2019). In 2023, Javier Parcet joined the Editorial Committees of Revista Matemática Iberoamericana and Journal of Functional Analysis.
He has also delivered invited conferences at Mittag-Leffler, Jussieu, Henri Poincaré, Oberwolfach, Lorentz Center, BIRS, Fields Institute, ICM Satellite on Operator Algebras… together with several Colloquia including the ICMS Maxwell Institute Colloquium and the LMS Midlands Lectures.
Parcet has also served the mathematical community in several aspects: Vicedirector of ICMAT (2016-2017) and member of its Governing Board (2016-2021); Chair of Math Analysis at ICMAT (2017-2022); President of the Severo Ochoa Executive Committee (2020-2023); Manager of Math Analysis at the Spanish Research Agency (2021-2024), President of the Hiring Committee of new positions at ICMAT (2019,2023)…
