Regulator constants and cohomology

Abstract:
Regulator constants are numerical invariants attached to finitely generated G-modules, where G is a finite group. They owe their name to the fact that, when the module under consideration arises from arithmetic (e.g., units of number fields or rational points of elliptic curves), these invariants can be expressed in terms of the appropriate regulator. We show how regulator constants can be related to the cohomology of G and derive applications to number fields and elliptic curves.
