Classification of Fano Polygon spaces
Speaker: Carlos Florentino (Universidade de Lisboa)Date: Wednesday, 03 June 2026 - 11:30Place: Aula Gris 1, ICMAT
Abstract:
The moduli spaces of polygons in R^3, with prescribed side lengths, are naturally both symplectic and compact Kähler manifolds, and can also be identified with moduli of certain quiver representations, and of topologically trivial rank 2 parabolic bundles over P^1. In this talk, we present some old and some new results on their topological classification, such as their cohomology ring and the so-called rigidity problem.
Our main result is the classification of all the diffeomorphism types of polygon spaces which are Fano varieties and, in some cases, the description of their toric geometry. This is joint work with Leonor Godinho (IST, Lisboa).
