Geometry Seminar

Instrinsic versus extrinsic generalised geometry

Speaker:  Vicente Cortés (U. Hamburg)

Place:  Aula Gris 2, ICMAT

Abstract:

In the setting of semi-Riemannian geometry generalised à la Hitchin, I will present a submanifold theory in the spirit of Gauß and Weingarten.

The theory has many potential applications. Results which we have obtained so far include:

1. the constraint equations for the generalised Einstein equations,

2. a generalised version of the fundamental theorem of hypersurface theory and

 3. the inheritance of generalised Kähler metrics on generalised complex submanifolds.

The above submanifold theory has been developed jointly with Oskar Schiller (arXiv:2507.12362) building on intrinsic geometric results obtained with Thomas Mohaupt, Matas Mackevicius and Oskar Schiller (arXiv:2507.17604).
