Abstract:

The Landau-Ginzburg/conformal field theory correspondence is a theoretical physics result from the late 80s and early 90s that predicts a certain relation between categories of matrix factorizations (describing boundary conditions and defects in Landau-Ginzburg models) and categories of representations of rational, N=2 vertex operator algebras (dito, but for N=2 conformal field theories). To date, we lack a precise mathematical statement of this correspondence, however some statements have been shown both as $\\mathbb{C}$-linear and tensor categories. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the progress made to date on our understanding of this correspondence and will describe some unexpected (or better said, exceptional) surprises on the N=2 minimal models recently discovered in joint work with Thomas Wasserman (Aalto University, Finland).
