The intersection of two quadrics
Speaker: Nigel Hitchin (University of Oxford)Date: Friday, 28 March 2025 - 11:30Place: Aula Naranja, ICMAT
Abstract:
A three-dimensional intersection of quadrics is well-known to be isomorphic to a moduli space of rank 2 stable bundles on a genus 2 curve and in consequence the integrable system on the Higgs bundle moduli space gives Poisson- commuting functions on its cotangent bundle. A recent paper of Beauville et al showed that there are equivalent functions for the intersection of quadrics in any dimension and this poses the question of linking it to moduli space problems for bundles on hyperelliptic curves. The talk is a follow-up to one given at the online memorial to Peter Newstead last year and involves bundles defined by Hecke transforms rather than the earlier description of parabolic Higgs bundles on the projective line.
