An introduction to Hodge theory

Abstract:
I will discuss Hodge structures, why they appear in the cohomology of smooth projective varieties, and which questions we could have to ask the analysis and PDE people to fill the gaps in our understanding. Time permitting, I will also hint at how Deligne extended the theory to non-smooth, non-projective varieties.
