Abstract:
As Bachelor's students, we have all encountered that cornerstone of math known as "Fourier series". Many of us have also heard of its close relative, the "Fourier transform". They certainly look similar, for sure... but did you know that they are exactly the same thing?
In this talk, we will explore a general framework for the Fourier transform using Abelian groups. This approach will reveal many hidden links you may not have noticed before, and it will also open the door to several modern applications of Fourier's ideas in today's research!
