Special Colloquium
Rationality problems
Speaker: Yuri Tschinkel (New York University)Date: Thursday, 25 April 2024 - 11:30-12:30Place: Aula Naranja, ICMAT
Abstract:
An algebraic variety is rational if it is birational to projective space, that is, can be parametrized by polynomials. Over the complex numbers, rationality of curves and surfaces is well-understood -- it only depends on global geometric invariants. The situation is much more subtle in higher dimensions. I will discuss recent geometric ideas and constructions that emerged in the study of rationality of higher-dimensional algebraic varieties.
