Resumen:

I will review some recently discovered (potentially new) differential geometric structures derived by studying effective field theories in string theory. In the first part, I will review a new type of symplectic cohomology theory, associated with an effective field theory that one gets from Gukov-Vafa-Witten type superpotentials by integrating out off-shell degrees of freedom. Here the background on-shell complex structure deformation plays the role of the symplectic form. This is non-degenerate, provided the corresponding Yukawa-coupling is non-vanishing. In the second part, I will review recent results about the differential that, to physicists rigor, counts the infinitesimal deformations of the Hull-Strominger system. I will also show how this type of differential is built up from the classical theory by requiring anomaly cancellation. The talk is based on several recent papers with co-authors, in particular my student Javier Murgas Ibarra who has been instrumental for deriving the results.
