Biographical Review

Marco Zambon is a "Profesor Contratado Doctor" (indefinite position, comparable to Associate Professor) at the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas – ICMAT (Institute for mathematical Research). His research interests belong to differential geometry and mathematical physics. More specifically his area of research is Poisson geometry, meant in the broad sense of the term. The techniques he uses are both geometric and algebraic, some of them arising from physics. His research stretches out to include super-geometry, higher Lie theory, foliation theory and generalized complex geometry. He is particularly interested in understanding the symmetries and deformations.

His publications include articles in Journal of the European Mathematical Society, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Communications in Mathematical Phyisics, Journal of Symplectic Geometry.

Born in Italy, Marco Zambon carried out his undergradaute studies in Cologne (Germany) and obtained his Ph.D. From the University of California, Berkeley (USA) in 2004, under the supervision of Alan Weinstein. He covered postdoc positions at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), CRM Barcelona, the University of Porto (Portugal), and obtained the Venia Legendi (Habilitation) from the University of Zurich in 2008. Since 2010 he has been a Ramon y Cajal fellow at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and ICMAT.

He was selected for two internationally competitive fellowships: "Ciencia 2007" by the Portuguese Research Foundation FCT (a 5 year fellowship), and “Ramon y Cajal 2009" by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (a 5 year fellowship), where he was ranked first.

He enjoys learning foreign languages, playing the piano, and travelling.
