Mathematics of Planet Earth Week

The Week devoted to Mathematics of Planet Earth consists of two events as part of the special year dedicated to Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE):

  • “A planet full of mathematics”, two day-sessions consisting of talks and workshops on the great challenges facing the planet and the role mathematics can play in solving them
  • ‘Fluid Mathematics’, in which a graffiti will be designed in situ with motifs drawn from fluid mechanics – mathematics used to describe the movement and structure of fluids – and which will end with an explanatory exposition of the main mathematical concepts involved, a painting workshop, and finally a talk on the mathematics of graffiti. The design of graffiti itself will be chosen from a competition in which secondary-school, baccalaureate and higher educational students from the Community of Madrid will participate.

The event will be held at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales and the program is as follows:

The event is organized by the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT) in collaboration with Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales and the Vicepresidencia de Cultura Científica del CSIC
