Abstract:

The Newmark method is a widely used numerical scheme for second-order differential equations arising for example in structural dynamics. In this talk I will discuss an extension of the Newmark method to the case of nonholonomic systems. I will present some numerical examples and explore the energy behavior of the methods. In particular, we will see that the composition of two adjoint methods in the family of nonholonomic Newmark methods is able to produce good energy behavior in our test cases. This is joint work with Alexandre Anahory Simoes, Juan Carlos Marrero and David Martín de Diego.
