Abstract:
The aim of this talk is to present a description of dissipative higher-order dynamical systems using the contact geometry framework. The starting points are the geometric treatment of (autonomous) higher-order mechanics, (which uses higher-order tangent bundles and their canonical structures) and contact first-order mechanics. First, the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms of higher-order contact systems are introduced, and then we state the so-called unified formalism that encompasses both of them, as well as their relationship through the Legendre map. Some example is also discussed.
