MATHQI SEMINAR - Applications of quantum information to cohomology and holography

Resumen:

In this seminar I will give a brief overview of some problems I'm currently working on. The first is studying the complexity of determining whether the fermion hard core model has any supersymmetric ground states (i.e. ground states with energy E=0). It is known that the problem of determining whether a supersymmetric system has ground state with zero energy is equivalent to deciding whether a particular cohomology group is trivial, and this problem is known to be QMA_1-hard. For the particular case of the fermion hard core model, the cohomology group in question is directly related to questions in topological data analysis, and its complexity is an open question. (No knowledge of supersymmetry or cohomology will be assumed in the seminar.)

The other problems I will cover are related to studying toy models of the AdS/CFT correspondence. I will discuss ongoing work to incorporate (discrete models of) conformal symmetry in the boundaries of these toy models, and using the toy models to study claims made about position based cryptography protocols based in AdS/CFT. (Again, no knowledge of AdS/CFT will be assumed!)
